Understanding Your Student Dental Plan

Most student health and dental plans in BC are run through your students’ union and administered by Studentcare. Your coverage has two parts, and knowing how they work helps you get the most from your plan.

Not sure which plan you have? Look for your students’ union name on your plan card or log in at studentcare.ca.

1. Your insured coverage

This is the portion your plan pays for eligible dental services, such as exams, cleanings and fillings. It applies at any licensed dentist.

2. Network savings

When you visit a Studentcare Dental Network member like Canada Way Dental, you receive extra savings on top of your insured coverage, which lowers the amount left for you to pay.

Common Dental Concerns for College and University Students

Student life brings its own dental challenges. Here’s how we help students in Burnaby stay on top of their oral health.

Wisdom Teeth

Many students start having wisdom tooth pain or crowding in their late teens and early twenties. We can check your wisdom teeth with an exam and X-rays and discuss whether removal is needed.

Cavities from Coffee and Energy Drinks

Late-night study sessions often mean more coffee, sugary drinks and snacking. Regular checkups help us catch small cavities early, before they become painful or costly.

Missed Checkups

Moving for school, busy schedules and new coverage can mean years between dental visits. If it has been a while, we’ll start with a full exam and cleaning with no judgement.

Use Your Student Dental Benefits Before They Reset

Student plans run on a policy year and come with an annual maximum. Coverage you don’t use doesn’t carry over, so booking your checkup and cleaning each year is the easiest way to get full value from the fees you’ve already paid.

Check your policy year dates and annual maximum on your plan, or call us and we’ll help you plan treatment around your coverage.

Do you bill my student plan directly?

Yes. We offer direct billing, so you only pay the portion your plan doesn’t cover.

What if I'm not sure what my plan covers?

Coverage depends on your school and students’ union plan. Check studentcare.ca or call us and we’ll help before your visit.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is needed. Call or email us to book an appointment directly.

Can international students use their plan here?

Yes. If you have a student dental plan through your students’ union, you can use your coverage at our clinic.
